What if I Fall Behind in Class?
Many students ask what they should do if they fall behind in class. There may be additional resources depending on your unique situations, but start with these five steps:
- Connect with your instructor first. Find out what steps you can take to get caught up and where to focus your time and energy. If you’re able and willing to share what caused you to fall behind, sometimes that can be useful for instructors to know about, but you don’t need to explain.
- Make an appointment to meet with an academic coach at the Academic Success Center. A coach can help you make a plan to get caught up on the work while staying current with the new materials and assignments.
- Identify some resources and support (see “Academic Support” above) and begin to use those.
- If you are concerned about your ability to pass the class, let your advisor know via email or in a meeting so they can connect you to resources, talk through S/U/W options or help you think ahead to stay on track.
- If you work with DAS, TRiO, EOP, Ecampus or other programs on campus, check with your advisers there for additional support and guidance.
What if I Experience Conflict or Bias in Class?
If you experience conflict related to instruction in your class, and you feel comfortable doing so, you may seek solutions by emailing or speaking with your instructor directly. This way, you and your instructor can work together to resolve issues including technology and evaluation.
