Week 7: Extra Credit Assignment: Watch, Critique, and Reflect

    • Due May 19, 2019 by 11:59pm
    • Points 0
    • Submitting a text entry box, a website url, a media recording, or a file upload

    Purpose:

(WHAT to do, and WHY are we doing this?)

In this assignment, you will watch, reflect on, and critique three open source related lectures. This is intended to give you a broader view of open source. It's an opportunity for you to reflect on what kind of side project you will start/join in.

    Instructions:

    (HOW to)
    • Carefully watch the following three TED lectures:
      1. Can Open Source Be Traced To The 17th-Century?
      2. Salvatore Iaconesi: What happened when I open-sourced my brain cancer
      3. Jennifer Pahlka: Coding a better government
    • Summarize the ideas presented in all three of the talks.
      • This can be in the form of paragraphs, a drawing, a video of yourself critiquing the ideas, a story, a poem, or even a song.
    • Compare and contrast your own experiences with regard to the ideas presented in the talks.
    • Reflect on what ideas you'd want to see realized, and how you could possibly make that happen by open sourcing them.
